I did … so I built one of each; honestly, the Xeon is a bit faster for HyperV but slower for local services. The server(s) in question needed to act as HyperV hosts, a DVR, and a Plex server … the i5 worked good but I noticed the VM’s were pokey, so I built the Xeon … here’s what I found … the L2 cache is key here.
My boss likened it to this and I thought it was brilliant … try towing a boat with a Mustang. The Mustang has plenty of power on it’s own but no real torque. Now, pull that boat with a F350 … big difference. Sure, you won’t win any races but you will get where you need to go.
